What is the CTT-EDom and why is Geneva different?

Geneva does not use the federal standard contract for domestic work. It has its own binding standard contract, the CTT-EDom, which covers everyone employed in a private household in the canton: cleaning, cooking, laundry, errands, childcare, care of older or disabled people, gardening and other household staff. Its minimum wages are graded by qualification and are the highest household wages in Switzerland.

What it means if you employ someone at home

If your home is in Geneva, the rung that matches your Helper's qualification and the work is the least you may pay, and for a gardener with a federal diploma it is the highest household rate in the country. Helpore resolves the rung from the Helper's declared qualification and the service booked, and applies it to every booking and contract at a Geneva address.

Without a qualification: CHF 24.59 / hour
AFP, or four years of experience: CHF 24.85 / hour
CFC: CHF 25.11 / hour
CFC in horticulture: CHF 26.78 / hour

Common questions

Does the CTT-EDom cover a nanny or only cleaners?

Childcare in a private household is named in the contract's own scope, as are cooks, gardeners, chauffeurs and carers. Only crèches and midday supervision are excluded, because they are not household employment.

My Helper lives in France. Does Geneva's rule still apply?

Yes. The rule follows the household's address, not the worker's residence. A cross border commuter working in a Geneva home is owed the Geneva rate.
