The FAK (CAF in French and Italian) is the family allowance fund. It pays the child and education allowances a family receives, and it is financed by a contribution employers pay on wages. The rate is set per canton, not federally.
Your household pays the family allowance contribution as part of the compensation office bill. The person you employ may then claim the allowance for their own children.
