No 2027 premium yet, and one canton above the rest in 2026
Households that employ a Helper in the simplified procedure can settle the compulsory accident insurance through their cantonal compensation office (VAVplus). On 30 October 2026, none of the 22 offices that offer this route had published its premium for 2027. A household budgeting for January 2027 has only the dated 2026 figure to go on.
In 2026, 17 of the 26 cantonal offices published a rate. Of these, 16 charged the same: 0.505% of the AHV wage for accidents at work (BU) and 1.432% for accidents outside work (NBU), 1.937% in all. Basel-Landschaft charged 0.586% and 1.758%, a total of 2.344%, which is 21.0% more.
In 4 cantons the office pages show no office route: Appenzell Innerrhoden, Neuchâtel, Schaffhausen, and Uri. There, the household insures the Helper directly with an accident insurer.
Who bears the premium for accidents outside work depends on the canton's standard employment contract. In this study's reading, it may be deducted from the Helper's wage in 24 cantons. In Basel-Landschaft, unless a written agreement says otherwise (§ 1 Abs. 5), the household bears at least half; the office leaflet says the whole premium may be deducted. In Obwalden, on the careful reading (an inference), the household bears all of it.
What the office route covers
The office route is open only to households in the simplified procedure. In 2026 that procedure applies up to CHF 22’680 a year for one employee and CHF 60’480 for all employees of the household; for 2027 the limits are CHF 23’040 and CHF 61’440. Every employee of the household must be settled in the procedure (BGSA Art. 2 Abs. 1 Bst. c). The offices add their own conditions. In Basel-Landschaft, the office leaflet is, in our translation, “for household employers and property owners”, and the office does not take an employee who has reached the AHV reference age. A household above these limits settles in the ordinary procedure and takes out a policy with an accident insurer. The tariffs of those insurers are not part of this study.
The premium for accidents at work (BU) covers the Helper from the first day of work, and the household bears it (UVG Art. 91 Abs. 1). The premium for accidents outside work (NBU) applies only when the Helper works at least 8 hours a week for the same household (UVV Art. 13 Abs. 1). Below 8 hours, an accident on the way to work counts as an accident at work (UVV Art. 13 Abs. 2). Both premiums are a percentage of the AHV wage.
The 2026 premiums
Of the 26 offices, 17 published a 2026 rate. 6 of them date the rate to 2026 on the page; 11 show the rate without a year, and it is the same rate the other offices name for 2026. 16 offices charge 0.505% for accidents at work and 1.432% for accidents outside work. Basel-Landschaft charges 0.586% and 1.758%: the work premium is 16.0% higher, the premium outside work 22.8% higher, and the sum of the two 21.0% higher.
3 offices offer the route but show no rate: Basel-Stadt, Geneva, and Nidwalden. On 30 October 2026, 2 offices showed a rate without the year 2026, at the level of the 2025 rates: Jura and Solothurn. We list their rate as unconfirmed for 2026 and give them no 2026 figure. The count of 17 offices with a 2026 figure is the reading of 30 October 2026.
The common rate is lower than in 2025. On 30 October 2026, the offices of Aargau, Thurgau, and Valais showed both years: 0.518% and 1.467% in 2025, 1.985% combined, against 1.937% in 2026. That is 0.048 percentage points or 2.4% less.
2027: no premium published yet
All office pages were read on 30 October 2026, the same day as the 2026 rates. None of the 22 offices that offer the route had published a 2027 rate, and the 4 offices without a route still offered none. This part of the study is a snapshot of 30 October 2026; it will date as the offices publish their rates.
Until an office publishes its 2027 rate, the 2026 rate is the last dated rate, not a 2027 rate.
Who bears the premium for accidents outside work
Under federal law the premium for accidents outside work is the employee's, unless an agreement more favourable to the employee says otherwise (UVG Art. 91 Abs. 2 und 3, SR 832.20). Each canton's standard employment contract for household work (NAV) can say otherwise. This study's legal reading of the 26 contracts as in force on 24 October 2026; no change has been announced for 2027:
- In 24 cantons the premium may be deducted from the Helper's wage. In 8 of them the contract is silent on the premium, so the federal rule applies.
- In Basel-Landschaft the household bears at least half: the contract allows at most half to be deducted (Verordnung über den NAV für Hauspersonal, SGS 212.34, § 22 Abs. 3, § 1 Abs. 5). A written agreement can say otherwise (§ 1 Abs. 5). The office's leaflet (as of October 2026, read on 30 October 2026) says the whole premium may be deducted; this study follows the contract, which governs the employment.
- In Obwalden, on the careful reading (an inference), the household bears all of it (NAV für hauswirtschaftliche Arbeitnehmer, GDB 844.1, Art. 19 Abs. 1, Art. 22 Abs. 2, Art. 2 Abs. 1). The contract was written for full time staff. For part time work it applies “sachgemäss” (as appropriate) under Art. 22 Abs. 2, which names some of its rules “insbesondere” (in particular) and not Art. 19 Abs. 1: that is the literal reading. That Art. 19 Abs. 1 also applies, as appropriate, to part time work is an inference; the careful reading keeps the premium with the household. The parties can agree otherwise in writing (Art. 2 Abs. 1). The office page of Obwalden does not say who bears it.
This is a reading of the law, not advice for a single case. A written agreement can always give the Helper more.
What it means per CHF 10’000 of wage
For every CHF 10’000 of AHV wage, at the rate of 16 offices, the work premium is CHF 50.50 and the premium outside work CHF 143.20, CHF 193.70 in all. In Basel-Landschaft the two come to CHF 58.60 and CHF 175.80, a total of CHF 234.40 and CHF 40.70 more.
Where the Helper works at least 8 hours a week for the household and the premium outside work may be deducted, the household's share is CHF 50.50. The household owes the whole premium and may deduct CHF 143.20 from the Helper's wage, only from the pay of that period or the next (UVG Art. 91 Abs. 2 und 3, SR 832.20). In Basel-Landschaft, unless a written agreement says otherwise, the household pays at least CHF 146.50 and at most CHF 87.90 is deducted. In Obwalden, on the careful reading, the household pays the whole CHF 193.70. Below 8 hours a week only the work premium applies, and the household pays it.
At the 2026 limit of CHF 22’680 a year for one employee, the premiums at the common rate come to CHF 439.31 a year, and to CHF 531.62 in Basel-Landschaft, rounded to the rappen.

The household is the employer
The household is the employer of its Helper and insures them against accidents, through the compensation office or directly with an accident insurer. With Helpore Admin, Helpore takes out the accident insurance in the household's name. With Helpore Admin Light, the household takes out the cover and pays its insurer directly, while Helpore calculates the wage and the contributions and prepares the payslips.
The guide to accident insurance for a cleaner explains how to choose between the office route and a policy of your own, and what to do after an accident. The glossary explains accident insurance under the UVG, non occupational accident insurance and the simplified procedure.
Frequently asked questions
Has any compensation office published its 2027 accident premium?
No. On 30 October 2026, none of the 22 offices that offer the route had published a 2027 rate.
What does accident cover through the office cost in 2026?
16 of the 17 offices with a published rate charge 0.505% of the AHV wage for accidents at work and 1.432% for accidents outside work, 1.937% in all. The office of Basel-Landschaft charges 0.586% and 1.758%, a total of 2.344%.
Who pays the premium for accidents outside work?
In this study's reading of the cantonal standard contracts, it may be deducted from the Helper's wage in 24 cantons. In Basel-Landschaft, unless a written agreement says otherwise (§ 1 Abs. 5), the household bears at least half; the office leaflet says the whole premium may be deducted. In Obwalden, on the careful reading (an inference), the household bears all of it. The premium applies only from 8 hours a week with the same household.
Which cantons offer no office route?
Appenzell Innerrhoden, Neuchâtel, Schaffhausen, and Uri: their office pages show no such route. There, the household insures the Helper directly with an accident insurer.
Method and limits
Who bears the premium for accidents outside work comes from this study's reading of each cantonal standard contract, read on 24 October 2026; for 2027 it keeps every reading in force since 1 October 2026. The rates come from Helpore's own record of the office pages: every office page was read on 30 October 2026, for the 2026 and the 2027 rates.
- Only the simplified procedure: the office route is open up to CHF 22’680 a year for one employee and CHF 60’480 for the household in 2026, and up to CHF 23’040 and CHF 61’440 in 2027. Insurer tariffs in the ordinary procedure are not compared.
- The premium for accidents outside work applies only from 8 hours a week with the same household (UVV Art. 13 Abs. 1).
- No 2026 figure for Basel-Stadt, Geneva, and Nidwalden, which offer the route but show no rate, and for Jura and Solothurn, whose pages showed a rate without the year at the level of 2025 on 30 October 2026.
- The 2026 status is what each office page showed on 30 October 2026; the table links each page.
- The allocation is this study's legal reading of each cantonal standard contract, linked to its official text in the table. In 8 cantons the contract is silent and the federal rule applies. The reading for Obwalden is an inference. None of it is advice for a single case.
- The 2027 status is a snapshot of 30 October 2026.
- The examples per CHF 10’000 multiply the wage by the rate and need no rounding; the example at the limit is rounded to the rappen. On a payslip prepared by Helpore, each line is rounded to five rappen.
- A change in % is the later figure minus the earlier figure, divided by the earlier figure, rounded to one decimal.
