Notice depends on how long the employment has lasted. During probation it is seven days and can end on any day. After probation it is one month in the first year of service, two months from the second to the ninth, and three months from the tenth, and the notice always expires at the end of a calendar month.
The rule is the same whoever gives notice, you or the person you employ. A contract may agree a longer period, as long as it is the same for both sides; it can never agree a shorter one than the law.

Only during probation. After that the notice period expires at the end of a calendar month, so the last working day is the last day of that month.
