# Public holidays for household staff by canton, 2026 and 2027: data definitions

File: household-holiday-canton-2026-2027.csv, one line per canton and year in the order of the canton codes, comma separated, UTF-8. Dates are written year, month, day and separated by a space.

| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `canton` | The two letter canton code. |
| `year` | The year the line counts. |
| `engine_list_status` | on_file where the engine holds the canton's dated list for the year; missing where it holds none. |
| `list_basis` | legal for the canton's list of public holidays, kept under its law on public rest days or under the Labour Act; standard_contract_list for Valais; aargau_districts and fribourg_parts where the list depends on the place; no_rest_day_list for Ticino; missing where there is no list. |
| `holidays_total` | The public holidays of the one list in the year. Empty where the canton has several lists or none. |
| `holidays_mon_to_fri` | Of them, the days from Monday to Friday. |
| `holidays_saturday` | Of them, the days on a Saturday. |
| `holidays_sunday` | Of them, the days on a Sunday. |
| `variants` | Aargau and Fribourg: each list as `id:total:Monday to Friday:Saturday:Sunday`, separated by a space. |
| `variant_mon_to_fri_min` | Aargau and Fribourg: the fewest days from Monday to Friday of the lists. |
| `variant_mon_to_fri_max` | Aargau and Fribourg: the most days from Monday to Friday of the lists. |
| `hourly_paid_days` | The public holidays a Helper paid by the hour is paid for when not working, under federal law and the canton's standard contract. Empty where the days are not known or where there is no list. |
| `hourly_paid_mark` | unverified where the standard contract could not be read or does not settle the point; the count then follows the reading that never underpays. A canton with this mark is not counted among those where a Helper paid by the hour is paid for the national day only. |
| `federal_day_on_sunday` | yes where the national day falls on a Sunday that year and the count keeps it; whether the national day is then paid is unverified. In Valais the standard contract gives no wage for a holiday on a Sunday, so the count leaves the national day out and the column reads no. Empty where hourly_paid_days is empty. |
| `helpore_clause_paid_days` | Geneva: the days the clause of the household's employment contract, which Helpore prepares from the details the household enters, keeps paid. This is Helpore's choice, not the law. |
| `holiday_dates` | The dates of the list; for Aargau and Fribourg each list as id=dates, separated by a vertical bar. |
| `hourly_paid_dates` | The dates counted in hourly_paid_days, where the study can name them. |
| `text_reading_article` | The article of the official text read for this canton, where the study reads more than the engine's list. |
| `source_title` | The title of the canton's source. |
| `source_article` | The article the list is read from. |
| `source_url` | The address of the source; empty where the engine notes give none. |
| `source_read_on` | The day the source was read. |
