# Methodology and sources

Helpore compared Eurostat's published Swiss results for 2016 and 2024 in dataset `ilc_ats20`.

The measured population is people living in Swiss households where at least one person needs help because of long term physical or mental ill health, infirmity or old age. The percentage records financial reasons as the main reason for not receiving paid home care, or not receiving more paid home care.

The national share was 18.7% in 2016 and 8.4% in 2024. The change is 8.4 minus 18.7, or minus 10.3 percentage points. The relative change is 8.4 divided by 18.7, minus one, or minus 55%.

For the 2024 cross sectional comparison, the share was 9.8% among people at risk of poverty or social exclusion and 7.7% among everyone else. The difference is 2.1 percentage points.

Swiss national metadata describes SILC 2014 to 2024 as a comparable cross sectional series. The analysis does not test statistical significance because confidence intervals are not supplied with the API observations. It does not infer a cause for the change.

Eurostat defines professional home care as paid activity. It does not imply a qualification or quality level. The definition includes health care and everyday assistance such as meals, medication reminders, laundry, light housekeeping, shopping, transport and companionship.
